Intern Responsibilities
Job Description and Qualifications:
As the Rockwall Area Chamber of Commerce summer
intern, you will be responsible for providing secretarial assistance to help
ensure efficient operation of the office. In addition to secretarial
assistance, you will be completing multiple projects as assigned. Responsibilities
include working the front desk, researching leads and fulfilling information
requests, assisting with the planning and preparation of special events and
meetings, and assisting in completion of tourism-related projects.
Qualifications required for this job include excellent time management skills
and ability to multi-task and prioritize work, attention to detail
and problem solving skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills,
and strong organizational and planning skills. Must have or be in the
process of completing Marketing, Business, or Tourism degree. Must also be
capable of working with all Microsoft Office applications.
Benefits and Opportunities: This was a paid internship, and no room and board were provided because this is my hometown. I was given so many great opportunities to network with others through AM/PM Networking Group, Rockwall Young Professionals, and every luncheon ad breakfast we held. In addition to these activities I was able to attend so many wonderful events like the CaddyShack Golf Tournament and Par-tee. As a staff, we bonded quickly and I am so grateful for the relationships I formed with them over the summer.
Achievements: Personally, I was able to grow so much over the course of my internship as far as my communication skills. I worked the front desk, often times answering the phones and helping callers, so this forced me to get comfortable with interacting with others. I was always included in staff meetings and was able to voice my comments and concerns, which also greatly improved my communications skills. I have also learned so much about special events and what all goes into planning large events and luncheons. I was a part of the planning and implementation of the CaddyShack Golf Event this year, which showed me the importance of being organized and on time. A valuable skill, in the chamber world, that I learned about this summer was how to use the Chamber Master database. I was asked to help design and complete a website for the North Texas Chamber Executives, which I did, over the course of the summer with help from Chamber executives across the North Texas Area. Another project I completed over the summer was brochure fulfillment. The Chamber had received over 1,000 brochure by mail requests over the last few months and were extremely behind in sending them out. I took on the task and completed it before the close of my internship.

Fun Times
During my summer at the Chamber I was able to not only gain valuable knowledge and experience, I was also a part of a fun group of people. As a way to get people talking about the Chamber and show that we have a fun side as well, the staff made a "Call Me Maybe" video and posted it for the community to see.
During June we hosted our annual CaddyShack Golf event that included a pre-tournament Par-Tee and the tournament the following day. Attending these events was so much fun!
At the July Monthly Partnership luncheon I had the honor of meeting our key speaker, State Representative Scott Turner.
